Gregory House Wikipedia

For eight years the show brought in people from around the globe, bringing intrigue and mystery in the form of unusual medical cases in a vein reminiscent of the mysteries solved by Sherlock Holmes. Furthermore, these cases were the catalyst for the discussion of philosophical and ethical issues and decisions, a lot of which were not left with a clear victor, but all of which revealed more and more of the character of each of the different doctors that comprised the team each year. In the end, while the team didn't completely understand (or appreciate) House's methods fully, the show gives a final hurrah as each of the members walks away with something they realize was the right thing to do after all. Although the mantra "Everybody Lies" is proven over and over again, the concept that "people never change, they only come up with better lies" is tested up until the last moments as the characters (and the show) drive off into an adventure left to the imagination. After the show's title fades, an aerial view of PPTH (actually various Princeton University buildings, primarily Frist Campus Center) is followed by a series of images accompanying each member's name; most are shown next to, or superimposed upon, illustrations of the human anatomy.

The Series

House's father was a strict disciplinarian, but although his punishments were severe, they were never arbitrary or fuelled by anger. As a Marine, John probably felt his son would respond well to the same sort of discipline that made him the man he is. However, although House clearly wants nothing more to do with his father, it's just as clear that his father wants to have a relationship with his son and share the important things in his life. Although House has had a number of co-workers, employers, lovers, and acquaintances during his life, it appears that he has only had seven real relationships during his life.

Average Visit Time

This is especially the case when the proposed procedures involve a high degree of risk or are ethically questionable. Frequent disagreements occur between House and his team, especially Cameron, whose standards of medical ethics are more conservative than those of the other characters. House was among the top 10 shows in the United States from its second through fourth seasons. Distributed to 66 countries, House was the most-watched television program in the world in 2008. The show received numerous awards, including five Primetime Emmy Awards, two Golden Globe Awards, a Peabody Award, and nine People's Choice Awards.

Cast and characters

He openly and relentlessly mocks colleagues and patients who express any belief in religion, deeming such beliefs as illogical. In the following episode, "After Hours", he finds out that the medicine causes tumors, and operates on himself in his bathtub based on a CT scan. Ultimately he is unable to continue and eventually brings in Cuddy, who sends him to the hospital. The candidates for House's new diagnostics team are Season 4's primary recurring characters. Each of the four departs the show after elimination, except for Volakis, who appears throughout the season, having started a relationship with Wilson. In the two-part season finale, Volakis attempts to shepherd a drunken House home when Wilson is unavailable.

"US viewers in millions" refers to the number of Americans in millions who watched the episode live while it was broadcast or by a few hours later with a digital video recorder. House attended a medical convention in New Orleans, Louisiana where he noticed a young medical school graduate carrying around unopened divorce papers all weekend. He followed the doctor, James Wilson, to a bar where a man kept playing Billy Joel's "Leave a Tender Moment Alone" on the jukebox which reminded Wilson of his recent breakup, prompting the two to get into an argument.

In the Season 5 episode The Itch, House is seen picking up his keys and Vicodin from the top of a copy of Conan Doyle's The Memoirs of Sherlock Holmes. In another Season 5 episode, Joy to the World, House, in an attempt to fool his team, uses a book by Joseph Bell, Conan Doyle's inspiration for Sherlock Holmes. The volume had been given to him the previous Christmas by Wilson, who included the message "Greg, made me think of you." Before acknowledging that he gave the book to House, Wilson tells two of the team members that its source was a patient, Irene Adler.

Toward the end of Season 5, House begins to hallucinate; after eliminating other possible diagnoses, Wilson and he determine that his Vicodin addiction is the most likely cause. House goes into denial about this for a brief time, but at the close of the season finale, he commits himself to Mayfield Psychiatric Hospital. In the following season's debut episode, House leaves Mayfield with his addiction under control. However, about a year and a half later, in Season 7's 15th episode, Bombshells, House reacts to the news that Cuddy possibly has kidney cancer by taking Vicodin, and his addiction recurs.

In the Season 3 episode Family, Foreman announces his resignation, telling House, "I don't want to turn into you." During the season finale, House tells Chase that he has either learned everything he can, or nothing at all, and dismisses him from the team. Jacobs said that most of the backgrounds have no specific meaning; however, the final image—the text "created by David Shore" superimposed upon a human neck—connotes that Shore is "the brain of the show". The sequence was nominated for a Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Main Title Design in 2005. The title sequence continued to credit Spencer and Morrison, even when their characters were reduced to background roles during Seasons 4 and 5, and Morrison even after hers was written out. A new opening sequence was introduced in Season 7 to accommodate the changes in the cast, removing Morrison's name and including Jacobson and Wilde's. The opening sequence begins with an MRI of a head with an image of the boxed "H" from the logo (the international symbol for hospital) in the foreground.

Romance and PPTH

It was filmed largely in Century City, Los Angeles although the Pilot was filmed in Vancouver, British Columbia. As House and Cuddy's relationship progresses, they have clashes at work, including trying to keep the ER and ICU open. Meanwhile, Remy Hadley decides to take a leave of absence for a trip to Thailand. After admitting his relationship with Cuddy to his team, they worry if the couple can keep their work and personal lives separate.

Seeking employment, House approached her for a job and was hired despite his poor professional reputation. Cuddy once remarked that she hired him because she knew of his extraordinary skill as a diagnostician, although at a lower wage than would be acceptable for a doctor of House's expertise. House spent the next several years as Department Head doing as little as possible to keep his job, although he was assigned a star diagnostic team that he regularly abused and belittled. Nevertheless, he soon proved his worth as the "go to" doctor for complex and problematic cases.

Eventually, House starts to trust Dr. Nolan and starts to improve enough to be released. After initially thinking of leaving diagnostic medicine to relieve his stress, House finds that medical mysteries are the only good way to deal with his pain and he starts trying to get his job back from Foreman, who has replaced him in the meantime. After getting his position back, he manages to convince Chase to stay on his team full-time and manages to hook back Taub and Hadley (Thirteen) as well. However, once Chase admits to Cameron his complicity in the death of a mass-murdering African dictator, she won't be wooed back and leaves House, her husband Chase, and PPTH. Despite his academic misconduct, House was accepted into the University of Michigan's Medical System on a provisional basis while waiting out the appeal period at Johns Hopkins. During his time at UM House spent most of his time hanging around the university bookstore, where he eventually met a young undergraduate named Lisa Cuddy.

After a harrowing journey which ends with House taking a DNA sample to prove his theory that John was not his biological father, House and Wilson make amends and Wilson returns to PPTH. As the season progresses, more tragedy strikes when Kutner unexpectedly commits suicide. House's mental state quickly begins to deteriorate into hallucinations of Amber and delusions of a romantic relationship with Cuddy. During this season, Cameron starts getting romantically interested in House, but House appears disinterested. Matters are complicated when PPTH gets a new chairman, Edward Vogler, a billionaire holding the hospital a virtual hostage with a donation of $100 million. He takes a dislike to the "hardly working" House and after a series of clashes that result in Cameron resigning, seeks to have him fired.

Individual episodes of the series contain additional references to the Sherlock Holmes tales. The main patient in the pilot episode is named Rebecca Adler after Irene Adler, a character in the first Holmes short story, "A Scandal in Bohemia". In the Season 2 finale, House is shot by a crazed gunman credited as "Moriarty", the name of Holmes' nemesis. In the Season 4 episode It's a Wonderful Lie, House receives a "second-edition Conan Doyle" as a Christmas gift.

Thirteen is at first reluctant to start a relationship with Foreman, but the two eventually begin dating and are still together at the end of the season. In the 20th episode of Season 5, Simple Explanation, Kutner is found dead in his apartment with a gunshot wound to the head. Because Kutner left no note, House suspects foul play, though the death is accepted by the other characters as a suicide.
